Leather is a natural material made from animal hides that have been preserved and softened through a tanning process. We select our leathers based on their individual properties and the intended application. Leather lasts a long time, ages well and is easy to care for and repair. Leather will develop patina over time and gets better with age.
This product is made from leather sourced from a Leather Working Group (LWG) audited and rated tannery. LWG aims to improve the environmental impact of the leather industry by assessing and certifying leather manufacturers. The audit protocol covers energy use, waste, water use and chemicals, as well as traceability.
B.N. Enterprises, located in Delhi, India, has been a long-term supplier of ELK, starting with a small collection in 2013. They are a family business, founded in 1991, and are now one of our main suppliers of leather goods. To facilitate better understanding and insight into our product manufacturing and responsible sourcing, we have engaged the services of a local representative who can coordinate with the B.N. team on-ground.
All products made by BN meet European REACH standards for chemical safety.
BN is a member of both Sedex and BSCI, and the factory undergoes regular social compliance audits.

To maintain the beauty of your ELK bag we recommend protective sprays and using a good quality leather conditioner to treat the product, which will increase its longevity. Do not put leather pieces on the ground or rub against abrasive surfaces. Leather is a natural material and will wear with age and use. The dye in the leather can sometimes rub off so please be aware of this when wearing light clothing or placing the leather item on light surfaces.
